A 61-year-old Palatka man died in a single-vehicle crash in Flagler County on Wednesday morning, according to the Florida Highway Patrol.

State troopers said Michael Halford was driving his pickup truck northbound on Belle Terre Parkway in the inside lane about 9:35 a.m. when, for unknown reasons, his truck drifted into the median.

Troopers said the truck then veered across the northbound lanes and entered the grass area east of the roadway. It continued north, then entered the canal that flows east to west, adjacent to Royal Palms Parkway, and came to a stop partially submerged in the canal facing north.

Halford was taken to Halifax Medical Center, where he died.

Troopers said he was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash, and alcohol was not a factor.
