Driver killed in accident on Florida's Turnpike identified as Winter Park man

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Wickham, who was driving a Lexus SUV, was northbound on the Turnpike when, "for an unknown reason," he lost control and ran off the roadway.

A 55-year-old Winter Park man was pronounced dead after losing control of his sport utility vehicle on Florida's Turnpike on Monday afternoon, resulting in a crash that shut down all southbound lanes of the highway.

Florida Highway Patrol identified the victim as Dennis Wickham. The crash was at mile post 246. Emergency vehicles responded, causing slowdowns on northbound lanes of the Turnpike as the southbound lanes were detoured at Exit 249, Osceola Parkway.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Wickham, who was driving a Lexus SUV, was northbound on the Turnpike when, "for an unknown reason," he lost control and ran off the roadway.

The SUV flipped, coming to rest on its roof on the southbound side. Wickham pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, troopers said.
