3 local teens escape serious injuries in crash

According to Florida Highway Patrol reports, all three were buckled up, but the driver is being cited for careless driving and for not having an adult in the front seat with her while she was driving with her learner’s permit. She and her passengers, a 16-year-old girl from Sneads and a 15-year-old boy from Cottondale, were all taken to Jackson Hospital because of the minor injuries they received in the crash, according FPH reports. None of the occupants in the 1999 Honda Civic were named in the report. Officials said that the driver was eastbound on the dirt portion of Old Spanish Trail just past Davenport Road in Jackson County when the crash occurred. She was “traveling at speed too fast for conditions of the roadway,” the report stated. “Due to the speed of (the vehicle) and the terrain of the roadway, the driver lost control of (the vehicle) and traveled off the roadway and onto the ditch on the north shoulder. (The vehicle) went airborne and rolled several times before coming to final rest upside down facing west,” it continued.
