According to investigators, Rona S. Ramnarine of Miami was driving north in a Chrysler on Interstate 75 at about 4:37 Sunday morning when she rear-ended a GMC Terrain while nearing the County Road 6/Moccasin Wallow Road exit. The rear-ended SUV then ran off the roadway and overturned onto its roof, killing its driver, Derrell Scruggs, 68, and injuring Naomi Scruggs, 69, who was transported to Blake Medical Center. Ramnarine had three children in her vehicle, ages 5, 3, and 1, all of whom were injured and transported to Lakewood Ranch Hospital. Ramnarine has been charged with DWI Manslaughter, DWI with damage to property, DWI with serious bodily injury, DWI with damage to person/property, driving while license suspended causing death/serious injury with vehicle, and three counts of neglect of a child without great bodily harm.
