Convicted fatal hit-and-run driver dies in another Florida crash

McCoy pleaded no contest earlier this month to leaving the scene of a September 2013 crash where a pedestrian — 56-year-old Danny Ray Simons — was hit and killed. McCoy had been facing up to 30 years in prison at a July 10 sentencing.

A Central Florida man waiting to be sentenced on charges stemming from a fatal hit-and-run crash died in another crash over the weekend.

The Florida Highway Patrol reports that 40-year-old Christopher John McCoy was driving west on Interstate 4 near Auburndale shortly after midnight Sunday when he rear-ended an SUV. His car spun off the road and flipped into a ditch. He was not wearing a seatbelt.

FHP says the SUV came to a stop without losing control. Its driver and passenger were not injured.
