According to the Polk County Sheriff's Office, the 19-year-old driver of the Ford F-150 was not aware of the stop sign on Old Fort Meade Rd. and moved forward in the direction of the Altima in the intersection when the collision occurred.

Crash investigators said 43-year-old Angela Dickhaus of Frostproof had just left a fast food restaurant around 8 p.m. and was traveling on Scenic Highway (SR17) near Old Fort Meade Road when her Nissan Altima was struck by a Ford F-150 truck driven by a male teen.

Benning told deputies he did not see the stop sign at the end of Old Fort Meade Road and traveled into the intersection where he struck the Altima, reports said.
