Bicyclist struck, killed on U.S. 17-92 in Haines City

A bicyclist riding against traffic on an dark stretch of highway was struck by a car and killed Monday night, Haines City police said. The Mustang struck the motorcycle, throwing the rider against the windshield and roof of the car. Francis Gulzinski, 65, of Haines City was southbound in a Ford Mustang and was not able to stop in time after spotting the cyclist, police said. The bicyclist, whose identity was not released, was riding north in the south lanes of U.S. 17-92 at Lee Jackson Highway around 6:30 p.m., police said. The cyclist was transported to Heart of Florida Regional Hospital, where he later died.

Hoffman was headed north in the southbound lane of U.S 17/92 when he was hit about 6:30 p.m. by Francis Gulzinski, 65, of Haines City, who was heading south in his 1987 Ford Mustang when he spotted Hoffman and slammed on his brakes.
