Skateboarder struck, killed in unincorporated Lakeland

Since the crash did not set off the airbags in the truck, excessive speed was not suspected, the sheriff's office said.
A man on a skateboard was hit and killed by a pickup truck Saturday in unincorporated Lakeland. Scott Michael Sherman, 27, of Lakeland was riding a skateboard on Clubhouse Road around 12:20 a.m. when he was hit by a 2006 Ford F250. The driver, 37-year-old Terrance Rashon Green of Lakeland, stopped to provide first aid, as did residents from nearby houses, but Sherman died at the collision scene. Sherman was riding his skateboard in the middle of the eastbound lane of Clubhouse Road and had no reflective clothing or lighting in a section of the road that has no street lights. Green and a passenger told deputies they did not see Sherman until after the impact.
