31-year-old Jonathan Stewart was walking along the train tracks near Bargain Barn Road in Lakeland at about 2:00 p.m., and was most likely listening to loud music through his earphones, as family members say he is known to do. The conductor of a train approaching Stewart from behind did everything they could, including blowing the horn many times and hitting the brakes, but they could not stop before the train struck and killed him. Investigators believe that Stewart could not hear the train or its horn because he was listening to music at the time, and earbuds were found next him at the scene.
