St. Pete Man Killed in New Year's Eve Crash
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Steven Lee Clarke, 59, of Seminole was heading east on 102nd Avenue North just before 8 p.m. in a Lincoln MKX. At that time, a motorcycle driven by Matthew Deremer was heading west on 102nd Avenue North. As Deremer passed through the intersection with 98th Street, troopers say Clarke turned left, into the path of Deremer’s Suzuki.
Friends of devout motorcyclist killed by drunk driver speak out
Now, friends and family are gathering at a small but growing memorial at the intersection where 31-year-old Matthew DeRemer was hit.
Messages from loved ones envelop the makeshift cross standing on the side of the road.
One from his father reads, “My son...God’s son. -Dad”
The memorial is where Matthew’s fellow bikers remember the man he was.
“I told him, every day I would try to come and read to him because the last time he spent with me, he was reading scripture to me...and we were praying,” friend Rachel Mattocks said.
Since motorcycle crashes often end in serious injuries, victims need immediate help
Motorcycle accidents are more likely to end in serious injuries or death for the motorcyclist, since the rider is not protected from the force of a collision. When a motorcycle accident happens, the injured rider needs immediate, appropriate medical care, the accident needs to be investigated, and the insurance companies need to be informed.
When a motorcycle crash is caused by negligence, additional steps need to be taken to protect the legal rights of the injured motorcyclist or the family members of someone killed in a motorcycle crash. Go here to learn more about motorcycle accidents and claims.
