A seven-year-old Pompano Beach boy died Saturday from injuries sustained in a crash during a motorcycle/all-terrain vehicle race in Myakka City.

A seven-year-old Pompano Beach boy died Saturday from injuries sustained in a crash during a motorcycle/all-terrain vehicle race in Myakka City.

The incident occurred at approximately 9:30 a.m. in the 40000 block of Clay Gully Rd. Evan Y. Max was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

According to a Manatee County Sheriff’s Office report the Florida Trail Riders Association was conducting a sanctioned event that involved approximately 15 juveniles between the ages of 5 and 8. The young riders were being supervised by an adult on a motorcycle who was observing from the perimeter of the course.

Lynwood Ansley, 39, was looking for a female participant that he suspected may have fallen when he crossed the track near a Palmetto ledge. Ansley failed to see Evan approaching and the boy apparently did not observe Ansley and struck the rear portion of his motorcycle.

Ansley was not injured. The cause of death was listed as accidental.
