1 dead in Pinellas Park crash

Investigators in Pinellas Park are trying to figure out what led to a crash early Saturday that left one person dead. The crash happened just before 1 a.m. at the intersection of 66th Street at 100th Avenue. Pinellas Park Police Department investigators say one person was killed and another was rushed to a local hospital. The names of the victims have not been released.             All southbound lanes of 66th Street are still closed while police investigate.

PINELLAS PARK, Fla. -- There has been one confirmed fatality and one other injured victim in an overnight vehicle crash ion 66th Street and 100th Avenue in Pinellas Park. The identities of the victims have not been released pending next-of-kin notification. The second victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries. The crash occurred at 12:53 a.m. and Pinellas Park Police Department units shut down southbound lanes of 66th Street for several hours to conduct the crash investigation. Fatal crash leads to stalking, manslaughter charges

Yordan Acosta Cortina, 37, is facing charges of manslaughter and aggravated stalking in connection with the crash, which happened shortly before 1 a.m. Police say Cortina had been stalking Madelyn Gonzalez-Mederos, 29, after the couple recently broke up. Gonzalez-Mederos drove Calderon-Martinez's 2010 Honda Accord east on Bryan Dairy Road, then turned south on 66th Street. Police say Cortina followed. Gonzalez-Mederos then drove back onto 66th Street, heading north in an attempt to get away from Cortina, who was still following, police said.

Aggravated stalking leads to Pinellas traffic fatality

The investigation has revealed the suspect, 37-year-old Yordan Acosta Cortina, has been stalking 29-year-old Madelyn Gonzalez-Mederos due to a recent break up. Just after midnight early Saturday morning, Cortina was waiting in the parking lot of his ex-girlfriend Gonzalez-Mederos place of employment in order to confront her about their recent break up.
