Pedestrian dies after being hit by car in Ruskin

A pedestrian died Thursday evening after he was hit by a car in Ruskin. The crash happened at 7:53 p.m. in the eastbound lanes of 14th Avenue SE, just east of 15th Street SE. Genaro Olmeda-Laureno, 42, was walking east when he was hit from behind by a 2008 Chevrolet Malibu, deputies said. Olmeda-Laureno was taken to South Bay Hospital, then flown to Tampa General Hospital, where he died an hour later. There is no word as to whether the driver will face charges.
