Officers are still looking for the driver of the silver 2014 Nissan Altima with a Florida tag CILN37. Police described him as about 20 to 30 years old with a beard.
Police are looking for the driver who slammed into another car, leaving an 81-year-old man dead. The driver then took off. It happened just around 9 p.m. Wednesday at 15th Avenue South and 25th Street in St. Petersburg. Tomas Melendez, 81, had two other people in the car - his wife Anna, 62, and their son Daniel Melendez, 24, of St. Petersburg. Anna Melendez was driving the white Camry when it got hit by the Nissan. Daniel was in the back seat, according to the police report. Police said, the Nissan was rented by a Keisha Williams, 27, of St. Petersburg. According to the police report, witnesses saw the Nissan going north down 25th Street South at high speed swerving in traffic. It ran the stop sign and hit the Toyota. The Toyota flipped on the driver's side crashing into a fence, according to the police report. The Nissan driver ran from the scene. The Melendez family were taken to a hospital. Tomas was pronounced dead a little before 10 p.m. Anna and Daniel have been treated and released. Officers are still looking for the driver of the silver 2014 Nissan Altima with a Florida tag CILN37.
