"I never imagined him doing something like that," Randolph said. "He was too bright for that. But he was 15, he was a teenager. He was adventurous."
A 15-year-old St. Petersburg boy was killed in a skateboarding accident Sunday evening. Julio Moisa, 15, was driving with a learner's permit along Atwood Avenue N towing a skateboard with a rider behind his mother's Mercedes sedan. The boy on the skateboard, Austin Demauro, 15, a freshman at Northeast High School, let go after completing a trick known as "skitching." At this point the boy lost control and fell from the skateboard, striking his head against the pavement. He was not wearing a helmet. Demauro was transported to Bayfront Health St. Petersburg, where he was pronounced dead.
Why every fatality from a crash is not legally a wrongful death
After someone dies in a motor-vehicle accident, grieving family members and friends are often left with many questions. What caused the accident? Could it have been avoided? What do they do now that their loved one is gone?
Sometimes a fatal collision happens through no one's fault. Crashes caused by weather and road conditions, or by wildlife in the roadway, are examples. But when a fatal crash is caused by negligence, then family members should pursue a wrongful death claim, to uphold the victim's rights and begin the financial recovery process.
