Sarasota scooter driver killed in crash on Clark Rd.

An unidentified motor scooter driver died Saturday night from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Sarasota County.
An unidentified motor scooter driver died Saturday night from injuries sustained in a two-vehicle crash in Sarasota County. The incident occurred just after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of Clark Rd. and Honore Ave. The scooter operator, who was not wearing a helmet, died at the scene. According to a Florida Highway Patrol report the 2013 Bash Sports 50 scooter was traveling east on Clark Rd. approaching the intersection when the driver attempted to make a left hand turn on to Honore Ave. Investigators say the driver did so on a red light and veered directly into the path of a 2000 Dodge Caravan driven by Michelle Kolch of Thonotosassa. She could not avoid the scooter and the driver was ejected. Kolch, 41, and three passengers in her vehicle were not injured. No charges have been filed. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.
