A crash on Cypress Gardens Boulevard involving a minivan and two motorcycles left one man dead and two injured.

The Polk County Sheriff’s Office says around 3:45 p.m., Frederick Gengler, 72, tried to turn left onto Lake Bess Road at the same time that two motorcycles were going to the same location.

Investigators say Gengler tried to speed up while the motorcycles tried to avoid a collision. One motorcycle, driven by Mark Bradley, 21, avoided the collision, but the bike slid out from underneath him.

The second motorcyclist, Robert Marcza, 24, hit the minivan. Deputies say Marcza died at the scene.

Gengler and Bradley were taken to area hospitals with minor injuries. Both were treated and released.

Officials say it appears, “but has not yet been confirmed”, that both motorcyclists were wearing helmets.

The eastbound lanes of Cypress Gardens Boulevard were closed for about four hours while deputies investigated the crash.

That investigation is ongoing.
