Underage driver seriously hurt in wreck that killed teen passenger

DeKalb police Capt. S.R. Fore said a 14-year-old boy was driving a Chrysler Sebring recklessly and at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the vehicle at the intersection of Rock Chapel and Rockbridge roads.

A crash occurred Sunday afternoon at Rock Chapel Road and Rockbridge when a 14-year-old driver lost control of his Chrysler Sebring, crossed the median, and was hit by a Honda Civic. The Chrysler driver was brought to Egelston Children’s Hospital in serious condition, and his 14-year-old passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. The occupants of the Honda and a third car were brought to Grady Memorial Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Witnesses said the Chrysler was speeding when the it lost control, and neither of the teens was wearing a seat belt. It was later learned that the Chrysler was a stolen vehicle, and reckless driving was a factor. Since the two teens are minors, their names are not expected to be released.
