Tobias Smith, 19, struck and killed by car while riding his bicycle at night in Clarke County.

Athens-Clarke County police are investigating a crash that killed a teenage bicyclist over the weekend.

Police said in a release that 19-year-old Tobias Smith was riding along Winterville Road when he was hit from behind by a woman driving a 2006 Mazda 3 on Saturday night.

Police say the driver tried swerving to avoid Smith, who wasn't equipped with lights or reflective materials. The teen was pronounced dead at the Athens Regional Medical Center.
