Governor Deal staffer killed in Ga. 400 wreck

Governor Deal has asked for prayers for the Burgess family. “Mack was an incredible young man, smart, hard-working, with a bright future ahead of him,” Deal said. “This is a terrible loss for everyone in our organization and for anyone who knew him. We are going to take some time to grieve and pay our respects to Mack and to the Burgess family. I ask that everyone bear with us as we take a break from the campaign to mourn a life ended much too soon.”
A crash on Georgia 400 claimed the life of a member of Governor Nathan Deal's re-election campaign. Mack Burgess, 25, died in the accident Tuesday afternoon on Ga. 400 northbound at Interstate 285. Burgess was a field staffer for the Georgia Republican party. Burgess graduated from Centennial High School in 2008 and from the University of Tennessee in 2012, where he was the president of Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity. Deal's opponent Jason Carter issued the following statement late Tuesday afternoon: “Kate and I are tremendously saddened to hear of the loss of Mack Burgess. Our thoughts and prayers are with Mack's family, as well as with Governor Deal's entire team."
