12-year-old girl critical after being struck by vehicle on East College Avenue in Decatur, Georgia

Decatur Police: No charges filed against driver that hit 12-year-old

Decatur Police Lt. Jennifer Ross has provided additional info regarding a 12-year-old pedestrian hit by a driver on Wednesday evening. The girl remains in critical condition. The incident occurred in the 100 block of East College Avenue.

Crashes aren't accidents. They're predictable and preventable. Using the word "accident" promotes the concept that collisions and wrecks are outside of human influence or control. The National Highway Transportation Safety Division has eliminated the word "accident" from the agency's vocabulary. I encourage all of us to stop referring to crashes as accidents.
