One injured in collision on Athens Highway

Ladders and tools spilled out of the truck, said Donald Smith of Gainesville Towing and Recovery. “There was a ton of glass,” he said.

One person has been sent to the hospital after a two-vehicle crash on Athens Highway at Gaines Mill Road. A red Ford Ranger was driving northbound around 3 p.m. Monday in the left lane. In the turning lane, a white van was traveling south on Athens Highway headed toward Gaines Mill Road. The van failed to yield while making a left turn. The van spun around after impact, while the Ford Ranger overturned. Gasoline was leaking from the car. The driver of the van was not hurt while the driver of the truck was transferred to Northeast Georgia Medical Center with injuries. It has been reported that alcohol was involved in the accident.
