Whitfield County crash kills 1, injures 2

One person was killed in a multivehicle crash around 6:30 p.m. Wednesday on South Dixie Highway near Forest Hill Road in Whitfield County, according to a news release from the Georgia Department of Public Safety. 
April M. Speck, 26, of Rocky Face, Ga., died in a multi-car collision. Two drivers in other vehicles involved in the accident, Everilda E. Valasquez, 49, of Calhoun, Ga., and Celissa D. Woddal, 28, of Dalton, Ga., were transported to Hamilton Medical Center, and their level of injury is unknown at this time. The crash happened when Speck tried to pass cars in a no-passing zone. She tried to get back in the southbound lane on the hill crest, but her car hit the side of Valasquez's vehicle. Speck then overcorrected and began spinning, causing her to hit the side of Woodall's car in the other lane.
