Bibb deputy killed in crash while pursuing suspect

Lt. Randy Gonzalez, a public information officer for the sheriff's office, said Freeman's patrol vehicle was hit by the suspect's vehicle that came from Buena Vista Drive as Freeman was coming down Columbus Road.

Freeman, a former Macon police officer, transferred to the sheriff's office with consolidation.

He was a K-9 deputy working in the Special Investigations Unit of the Bibb County Sheriff's Office.

Freeman's dog was with him but did not appear to be injured, Gonzalez said.

Martavius Taquan Kinder, also known as “Tadpole,” faces felony murder, vehicular homicide and reckless driving charges in the fatal crash that killed Bibb County sheriff’s Deputy Anthony “T.J.” Freeman on May 5. Kinder appeared in Bibb Magistrate Court on Friday for a probable cause hearing.  

Man charged in deputy’s death indicted on murder, vehicular homicide charges

Martavius Taquan Kinder is charged with three counts of homicide by vehicle and one count each of felony murder, fleeing or attempting to elude a police officer, DUI and misdemeanor marijuana possession, according to an indictment filed in Bibb County Superior Court.
