The vehicle landed upside down in a ditch containing standing water, and the driver Nija Jones, 19, of Rincon, was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to Effingham County Sheriff's Office Spokesman David Ehsanipoor, "Initial reports indicate the driver of the 2013 Hyundai sedan was traveling northbound on Georgia Highway 21 when she struck a guard rail causing her vehicle to flip several times."
