A 24-year-old newlywed who was honeymooning in Hawaii with her husband died after a motor vehicle collision near Turtle Bay on Oahu's North Shore, according to police.
A 24-year-old newlywed who was honeymooning in Hawaii with her husband died after a motor vehicle collision near Turtle Bay on Oahu's North Shore, according to police. Police officials say the woman was driving a moped in the Haleiwa-bound direction on Kamehameha Highway near the entrance to the resort when she veered into oncoming traffic and collided with a truck. "For unknown reasons, the wife went wide across the double-sided line and hit a truck that was southbound on Kamehameha Highway," said Lt. Robert Towne of HPD's Traffic Division. The woman was taken to The Queen's Medical Center, where she later died. Initial reports from emergency personnel said a 24-year-old woman was in extremely critical condition after a moped a rental truck collided with each other. Authorities said the moped rider was wearing a helmet. Traffic was initially contra-flowed on Kamehameha Highway, but both lanes were reported by 5:15 p.m. Her husband, who was riding another moped, was not injured. Police officials say the woman's death was the 20th traffic fatality of 2014, compared with 19 at this time last year. It is also believed to have been the third moped-related fatality of the year.
