A seven-year-old girl was hospitalized Tuesday after being hit by a car near the intersection of Queen Emma and School Streets.

Honolulu police were notified at 3:07 p.m. Witnesses say she was apparently trying to cross the street when the car hit her and bystanders ran over to help.

“I heard a loud bump,” said a witness. “I saw two people, a man got up and ran away toward the curb and when I went into the traffic and around the corner, the young girl was lying on the ground… She was injured pretty severely so we applied first aid, nestled her head, made sure no one moved her and another gentleman called 911. They came pretty quickly.”

Emergency medical services says girl was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in serious condition.
