Man arrested for negligent homicide in deadly Nanakuli pedestrian crash

According to police, Steven Campos, 22, was driving westbound when he struck Aulani Halemano, 32, of Waianae. Police say she was crossing the highway in a marked crosswalk. Halemano was taken to Queen’s Medical Center in critical condition and later died.

Nanakuli community raises awareness of pedestrian safety in wake of fatal accident

The Nanakuli community is holding a sign waving event Thursday to raise awareness about pedestrian safety in wake of an accident that killed a 32-year-old woman who was crossing Farrington Highway. State House Rep. Andria Tupola and Walk Wise Hawaii have partnered up to call for better crosswalks with new paint, lighting and reflectors. In addition to the sign waving event, Walk Wise Hawaii'€™s Raelyn Batacan will also lead volunteers in a Walk Wise Hawaii '€œPedestrian Pledge.'€ All participants must wear a white shirt or top and will be provided with safety vests. Aulani Halemano died Tuesday when she was hit by a pickup truck while in a crosswalk near Mohihi Street.
