A Fairmont City woman was killed after her car hit the ConAgra Grain Elevator in Alton Sunday evening.

A Fairmont City woman was killed after her car hit the ConAgra Grain Elevator in Alton Sunday evening.

Authorities said 27-year-old Christina Martinez was driving a 2000 Chevrolet Equinox on W. Broadway toward downtown Alton around 5 p.m. when the wreck occurred.

According to witnesses, the car bounced off the grain elevator and back into the roadway. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said Martinez was not wearing a seatbelt.

No other passengers were in the car.

Authorities said they are awaiting a toxicology report to determine if drugs or alcohol were in Martinez's system at the time of the crash.

Her death marked the second fatal wreck in Alton in two days.

On Saturday, a man was killed after his vehicle slammed into a traffic light near the intersection of Homer Adams Parkway and Seminary Road.
