Middendorf was the entertainment editor for the Daily Eastern News, EIU's student newspaper, and was also an office worker in the journalism department, Renaud said. She said Jarmon is the Daily Eastern News associate news editor.
An Eastern Illinois University student has died and another was injured in a pickup truck crash on Saturday. The crash occurred near the U.S. Route 45 interchange of Interstate 57 south of Mattoon, Illinois. The pickup truck was heading northbound when it went off the road and overturned. The driver, Jarad Jarmon, was ejected from the truck and hospitalized for injuries in Urbana. The passenger, Samantha Middendorf, was partially ejected and later died from critical injuries. Law enforcement officers say neither was wearing a seatbelt. An EIU faculty member said that both were students worked for the campus newspaper.
