2 Dead, 1 Injured in 4th Street Automobile Accident

The Springfield Police Department reports officers responded to a one car accident at approximately 1:22 AM on Saturday, July 18. A vehicle was traveling in the 500 block of South 4th Street in Springfield when it left the roadway and struck a tree. Sangamon County Coroner Cinda Edwards pronounced 28-year-old William Joseph Jones Jr and 25-year-old Roderick Pickett deceased at the scene of the accident.

Pictures, flowers, and balloons were put on display Monday afternoon by loved ones in memory of two men who lost their lives in a single-car crash over the weekend."It appears that speed and alcohol played a factor in the crash," said Deputy Chief Dan Mounce of the Springfield Police Department.Police say the tragic accident happened around 1:20 a.m. Saturday.
