A man was struck and killed while riding his bicycle late Friday night in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood.
A man was struck and killed while riding his bicycle late Friday night in the West Side Lawndale neighborhood.
Hector Avalos, 28, was traveling in the 2500 block of West Ogden Avenue about 11:50 p.m. when a van hit him, according to the Cook County Medical Examiner’s office and a police News Affairs Officer.
Avalos was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m. Saturday, according to the medical examiner’s office.
The driver of the vehicle stayed on the scene after the accident and was arrested, police said. Charges against him are pending.
Alcohol may have been a factor, police said. The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating.
