1 dead, 4 others hurt in 13-car crash on I-290

The crash involved at least 13 cars and happened around 12:40 a.m. in the outbound lanes of Interstate 290 near Central Avenue, according to Illinois State Police.

Snowy weather and ice contibuted to the accident, according to Illinois State Police Sgt. Alexander Diaz.

"It was just one giant chain reaction," Diaz said. "They just kept on piling up."

The westbound Eisenhower Expressway was closed for 10 hours Saturday after an early morning 13-vehicle accident that killed a 71-year-old Oak Park man.

Chef Jean-Claude Poilevey, 71 of Oak Park, owned Le Bouchon, 1958 N. Damen Ave., Illinois State Police confirmed.

Poilevey was a well-known French chef who owned two popular Chicago restaurants: La Sardine, located in West Town, and Le Bouchon, in Bucktown.

Black ice caused the chain-reaction pileup on I-290 near Central about 12:40 a.m., according to State Police.
