Women Killed in Car Accident in Winnebago County

WINNEBAGO COUNTY (WIFR) -- One woman was killed in a two car accident in Winnebago County Monday morning. It happened around 8 a.m. at Cunningham Road and Springfield Avenue. The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department says it appears one driver was going at a high rate of speed trying to flee from a Winnebago County Sheriff's deputy. The name of the woman killed has not yet been released. It appears she was an innocent victim in the crash.

A BMO Harris Bank personal banker and active church member, Joy Lambert, 55, was killed Monday when her white Buick Century was ripped in half during a crash about 8 a.m. at Springfield Avenue and Cunningham Road by a vehicle fleeing a Winnebago County Sheriff's deputy. The fleeing vehicle, driven by Laronda Graham, had been spotted speeding in the area of West State Street and Meridian Road and refused to stop for the deputy, police have said. Eric Brown, 24, was a passenger in the vehicle.

UPDATE: Woman Killed in Car Accident in Winnebago County

The Winnebago County Sheriff's Department says a deputy tried pulling a car over for speeding when it then took off, topping speeds of 80 miles an hour. Investigators say the deputy then quickly ended the chase at Springfield and Preston, but the suspect didn't slow down, crashing about half a mile later at Springfield and Cunningham, killing 55-year-old Joy Lambert and injuring the driver and passenger in the suspect's car.
