Christmas Eve head-on collision north of Freeport leaves Loves Park father dead

The impact of the crash separated the box of the red pickup from its cabin. Both vehicles had extensive front end damage, and Siegner’s Ford Fusion also suffered damage to the driver side door and front quarter panel.
On Christmas Eve morning, William H. “Billy” Siegner of Loves Park was headed north from Freeport with his 15-year-old son in a black Ford Fusion when a red Chevrolet pickup traveling south entered his lane and struck his vehicle Illinois 26 and Winneshiek Road. The 17-year-old pickup driver told investigators he had entered the lane while swerving to avoid hitting another vehicle. All three victims were brought to Freeport Memorial Hospital, and Siegner was then transferred to Rockford Memorial Hospital, where he later died. His son and the pickup driver both were treated and released. The 17-year-old was cited for improper passing at an intersection.
