A 32-year-old Versailles man was killed and two others were injured in a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

A 32-year-old Versailles man was killed and two others were injured in a single vehicle crash early Sunday morning.

It happened around 3:30 a.m. on State Road 129 just north of County Road 300 North in Ripley County.

Officials say a 2001 Dodge Minivan, driven by Zachary Smith, was heading north on Ind. 129 when it left the road, drove into a ditch and overturned several times. Smith and front seat passenger Jessie Windell, 54, of Versailles, were ejected from the car as it rolled.

Windell, Smith, and another passenger, Casey Sentell, 23, of Versailles, were taken to Margaret Mary Hospital in Batesville.

Smith was pronounced dead in an ambulance on its way to the hospital.

Sentell and Windell were treated for back and neck pain.

Police believe speed and alcohol were factors in the crash. They do not believe weather was a factor.

Drunk driver Jordan Griffin collided head-on into a truck carrying a man and four children around 4 p.m. on Saturday. Griffen's passenger was pronounced dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released. Both drivers and the four children were transported to the hospital for treatment of their injuries.

A girl, whose name, age, and condition were not available at this time, was airlifted to Dayton Children's Hospital tonight after her bike was struck by a car. Police said the girl riding her bicycle was hit around 6:15 p.m. by an oncoming vehicle while she was trying to cross the 400 block of South Center Street. The motorist was not hurt.

Two Mt. Orab residents were involved in an early morning car crash in Brown County.

The accident happened on New Harmony Shiloh Road just south of Oakland Locust Ridge Road in Pike Township at approximately 12:20 a.m. Thursday.

Troopers said the driver, Jeffery Smith, 23, was driving the 2001 Ford Mustang when it went off the left side of the road and struck a tree and utility pole. Smith was ejected from the car. He was pronounced dead at the scene, troopers said.

Police said Jason Woodyard was speeding Sept. 29 when he lost control of his rig in the northbound lanes on Interstate 75 and caused the death of 22-year-old Zachary Byrd.

Woodyard couldn't stop and hit two vehicles that were stopped near Mitchell Avenue after a minor crash, police said.

Byrd was a passenger in one of the stopped vehicles. He died from injuries at the scene.

Two other motorists were critically injured.

An early Saturday morning one-vehicle accident has claimed the lives of two Ripley teenagers, Diana Johnson, 19, and Chris Blackmon, 18. Tippah County Sheriff’s Department said that Diana the teens were in a 2006 Chevy Malibu when the driver, Johnson, lost control of the vehicle and struck a tree, instantly killing both teenagers who were wearing seat belts.The Ripley Police Department and the Ripley Ambulance Service also responded to the scene.
