A child died after being struck by a car Tuesday evening on the city's Southwestside.
A child died after being struck by a car Tuesday evening on the city's Southwestside. The incident occurred sometime before 7:30 p.m. in the 6800 block of West Thompson Road, not far from Kentucky Avenue. The child, a 10-year-old girl, was taken to Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health, where she later died. Police said the girl, who was not identified, was walking with another child in the road. A driver then swerved to avoid them, but ended up striking the 10-year-old, police said. The driver was cooperating was officers after the accident. Alcohol was not believed to be a factor. Earlier in the day, around 4:10 p.m., a child was also struck by green Ford Taurus at East 32nd Street and North Emerson Avenue. The child was taken to Riley with non-life threatening injuries.
