Train and car collide on city's southside

The railroad industry has tried in recent years to remind drivers to stop when they see those flashing lights.

Train versus car: teens make it out alive, but officials are calling for changes

“It’s a very stupid thing. I mean you’re risking your life. You know? One wrong move, like these kids made, and look what happened. They actually are very fortunate. All lived and that rarely happens,” said Marsden.
A car containing one adult and three teenagers was driving east on Epler Avenue just before 1:30 a.m. when the flashing lights at an upcoming railroad crossing alerted them of an approaching train. The crossing did not have arms, only lights, and rather than stopping, the driver of the vehicle sped through the crossing in an attempt to beat the train, but was too late and and collided with it. The teen in the rear driver's-side seat was hospitalized with serious injuries, while the remaining occupants all sustained more minor injuries and were taken to the hospital for observation.
