Police: Teen was drunk when he hit bicyclists

The Hancock County accident killed one young woman and injured another.

Teen to serve maximum sentence in reckless homicide case

After hearing around four hours of testimony, Hancock Circuit Court Judge Richard Culver sentenced Hughes to 9 1/2 years in prison.

A 17-year-old boy who struck two bicyclists Tuesday evening was driving drunk. Authorities the teen driver had a blood alcohol content of 0.28 percent, when he hit cyclists Carla McCloud and Amanda Wheeler around 9 p.m. Tuesday on West County Road 300S. McCloud, 22, of New Palestine, died Wednesday afternoon.  Wheeler, 22, of Greenfield, is in stable condition. The teen driver is expected to appear in court this week.
