Driving instructor dies after crash Saturday

Deputies say William Reddoch IV was headed south on US 52 in a driver’s education vehicle when he stopped abruptly in the left lane. A pick up truck traveling behind struck the back of the vehicle. Deputies believe the student driver was preparing to turn left at the intersection when he slowed. Reddoch IV and the instructor, Paul L. Foster, were taken to IU Health Arnett Hospital in Lafayette.

Friends mourn loss of driving instructor in Lafayette crash

Family and friends of a popular driving instructor who died following a crash Saturday remember him as "a kind and gentle soul" who loved working with kids. A pick-up travelling behind slammed into the back of the driver's ed car. Paul L. Foster, 69, was in the passenger seat with a student driver Saturday when the crash happened. She explained, "You wouldn't be there 13 years and do it day in and day out" if you didn't enjoy it. It's not known whether charges will be filed in the accident.Given the holiday, the county prosecutor's office is closed Monday.

Man charged with using cellphone before fatal US 52 crash

The Tippecanoe County Sheriff's Department says the Jan. 16 crash when Salem's pickup rear-ended a car with a 16-year-old student driver. The student, who suffered a concussion, told deputies he had a turn signal on and was slowing in the left lane of U.S. 52 to make a turn when the truck hit the car. The crash fatally injured 69-year-old instructor Paul Foster of Indiana All Star Driving School. Salem's home telephone range busy Monday and he could not be reached for comment.

Prosecutor dismisses ticket for texting while driving in fatal crash for now

But because of the serious nature of the crash, prosecutors are dismissing the ticket pending the results of the ongoing investigation by the sheriff’s office. Based on those results, prosecutors could refile the ticket or file criminal charges.
