Sellersburg man charged in fatal hit-and-run accident

JEFFERSONVILLE, Ind. (WHAS11) – A young man is facing serious charges after a hit-and-run accident caused the death of a pedestrian Saturday night. Bailey is being charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death, which is a level 5 felony. The circumstances of the accident remain unclear but officers arrived on the scene and provided aid to a 64-year-old man at the scene. Police say they located Brandon Bailey of Sellersburg and the vehicle involved in the crime at his address. According to police, they were called to the 1900 block of Spring Street in downtown Jeffersonville around 10 p.m.

The person, who has not been identified, was transported to University of Louisville Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Judge sets bond, court date in fatal hit and run on Spring Street

On Monday, Clark County Circuit Court No. 1 Judge Andrew Adams kept Bailey's bond set at $50,000 cash-only. Bailey's attorney, Frederick Reinecke, said that amount was too high.

Police: Sellersburg teen cooperative in fatal hit and run investigation

JEFFERSONVILLE — While details surrounding the fatal hit and run accident on Spring Street over the weekend are under investigation, Jeffersonville police say the suspect has been cooperative. That friend then contacted a local law enforcement official who was a "family friend" who in turn called police. The investigation is ongoing, Parker added, and results of the investigation will be sent to the Clark County prosecutor. Brandon Bailey, 18, Sellersburg, was later arrested and charged with leaving the scene of an accident causing death. Isaac Parker said Bailey called a friend soon after he reportedly fled from the accident.

Bailey is accused of hitting 64-year-old "Lee" Montgomery last Friday on Spring Street and driving off. The teen pleaded not guilty on Wednesday, his attorney expects Bailey to be released on home incarceration.
