The teens may have been camping nearby, the sheriff's office said, and were likely unfamiliar with the area. Arrangements for Kiewitt are being handled by Voss and Sons Funeral Home in Seymour.

A Seymour teen died after colliding with a tree off of State Road 337 near Laconia around 10 p.m. Saturday. Michelle Kiewitt, 17, was pronounced deceased in an operating room at University of Louisville Hospital at 12:12 a.m. Sunday. Three other teens were riding in the car. One was airlifted to University Hospital in critical condition. A backseat passenger was transported to University in stable condition. Another passenger sustained very minor injuries. Kiewitt was driving at the time of the crash and was ejected from the vehicle. Kiewitt was not wearing a seatbelt.
