UPDATE: Police release more info in Nappanee motorcycle vs. car crash

Police say the motorcyclist, 49-year-old George Bommarito of Petoskey, Michigan, attempted to pass an SUV when the 18-year-old driver of that vehicle abruptly turned left.

MedFlight responded to a accident between a motorcycle and small SUV in Nappanee Saturday afternoon.

It happened around 3:30 p.m. on U.S. Highway 6 at the intersection with C.R. 11. Police say the motorcycle was traveling behind the SUV on U.S. 6 when the SUV's driver began to turn right onto C.R. 11.

The motorcyclist -- 49-year-old George Bommarito of Petoskey, Michigan -- went to pass the SUV on the left when police say the SUV's driver made an abrupt change in direction and turned left.

Bommarito struck the driver-side door of the SUV. He was airlifted to the hospital with an incapacitating head wound, say police.
