Warsaw woman dies after struck by squad car

A northern Indiana woman has died after being struck by a police squad car while crossing a road to get her mail. Police say 30-year-old Winona Lake Officer John Leeper of Warsaw struck the woman about 6 p.m. Warsaw police say 67-year-old Sharon Mitterling died Friday night while being transported to a Fort Wayne hospital. He told investigators that he spotted Mitterling walking down her driveway and then briskly into the road, without looking, wearing a winter jacket with a hood pulled up over her head.
