3 killed in eastern Iowa when 4 vehicles crash on icy road

Authorities closed off a section of the highway for three hours as multiple ambulances and a medical helicopter arrived at the site. The crashes occurred around 5:20 a.m. on an ice-covered section of Highway 30 near Keystone, west of Cedar Rapids. Officials say 10 people were inside the van when it crashed and two of them were ejected from the vehicle. That collision caused two other cars to crash. The Iowa State Patrol says three people died and several others were injured Thursday morning after the driver of a minivan lost control of the vehicle on ice and another car crashed into it.

Friends, Families Remember Three Killed in Crash on Highway 30

Mambo said the group was driving to work in Tama when the crash happened. To lose three members of the local Congolese community so suddenly is incredibly hard to take, he told us, and he's now relying on that community as a source of strength. "I have friends who have become our family, but my family, they're in Africa, in Congo."
