The Iowa State Patrol says an SUV went onto the shoulder, overcorrected, entered the left lane and struck an oncoming vehicle.
Five Dead, Three Injured In Head-On Crash
Woodbury County Sheriff Dave Drew said the SUV was westbound on Highway 141 when the vehicle veered onto the gravel and overcorrected, causing the driver to lose control and crash into the eastbound truck.
Five Iowans Dead After Head-On Crash
Investigators are trying to figure out why the driver of an SUV lost control and smashed head-on into a pickup truck Saturday afternoon, killing five people and injuring three near Sloan in northwest Iowa.

Five people died and three others were injured in a two vehicle collision around 3:30 P.M. on Saturday afternoon at the intersection of Highway 141 and Eastland Avenue in Sloan, Woodbury County. The head-on accident killed Kibrom Gebremicael, 46, Yohanes Tesfamariam, 34, and Bahta Gebremedhen, 60, all from Sioux City. The crash also killed Myrna Malone, 70, of Des Moines and Donna Timm, 80, of Ute. Shishay Gidey, 53, of Sioux City and Larry Malone, 70, of Des Moines were driving the vehicles involved in the collision. Giday, Malone, and a third victim all suffered serious injuries. The Iowa State Patrol has not yet named the third injured victim.
