2 cyclists struck, killed in southeast Kansas
The Kansas Highway Patrol said in a crash log that a car struck the cyclists from behind around 11 a.m. Tuesday on Kansas 66, about 1 1/2 miles (2.5 kilometers) west of the town of Galena, just north of the Oklahoma state line.

Buchel and Jung were experienced cyclists on a 4,000-kilometer bike ride along Route 66, reported the Frankfurter Neue Presse[3], a Germany newspaper. The pair flew into Chicago and planned to fly back to Germany 59 days later.

But Conrad noted that the burden of proof is lower in a civil proceeding, and urged the Kansas Highway Patrol to retain reports in case the families sue.
