A 77-year-old woman injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Campbell County has died.

A 77-year-old woman was injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Campbell County.

A 77-year-old woman, later identified as Shirley Jones, was injured in a Wednesday afternoon crash in Campbell County.

Authorities were called to 3 Mile Road under Interstate 275 after a report that a car had gone off the overpass just before 2 p.m.

Firefighters arrived to find a burning car upside down on the side of 3 Mile Road. Crews extinguished the fire and removed the woman from inside.

Firefighters said the woman was unconscious on arrival. She was taken to St. Elizabeth Fort Thomas with critical injuries.

Officials said a medical emergency may have played a factor in the crash.

UPDATE: Shirley Jones has died from her injuries as a result of this accident. 02/28/14.
