A Union man was killed in an accident on his own property Tuesday.

A Union man was killed in an accident on his own property Tuesday.

Boone County sheriff's deputies were called to the 12000 block of Big Oak Road late Tuesday after a friend of the man living there went to check on his well-being after no one had heard from him since 10 a.m.

But the friend arrived to find the house open with no one around.

Deputies soon found Walter Boyd, 75, inside a pickup overturned in a creek near his home.

Speculation from those who knew Boyd was that he drove out to get his mail due to the bad weather and his truck slid off of the bridge that crosses the creek, the sheriff's office said.

The sheriff's office said Boyd's death appears to be "a very unfortunate accident."
