Three people were transported to a hospital on Tuesday night after a car struck a semi-truck’s gas tank, causing both vehicles to catch fire.
A Papa John’s semi-truck was attempting to make a wide right turn off the Outer Loop near Noltemeyer Wynd about 7 p.m. when a car tried to pass on the right. The car struck the truck’s gas tank and caused both vehicles to ignite, a Louisville Metro Police spokeswoman said.
The car’s three occupants escaped and were transported to University of Louisville Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, Smiley said.
The two people in the truck were not injured.
The accident shut down the Outer Loop’s east and westbound lanes for several hours.
